EN 50131-1: 1997 is being revised at present and will be released as a new standard in late 2005, early 2006. If the UK was to start to use the 1997 version in 2004 or 2005 and within a year or so a new EN was published this would result in a lot of confusion.
The British Security Industry Association has published a document (called Form 171) that gives guidance about how to interpret the requirements of EN 50131-1: 2004 and PD 6662: 2004.
